The One World Day event was held on Rosemount Viaduct in the area between the Aberdeen Library and the His Majesty's Theatre. The purpose of this event was to celebrate our diverse cultures: there were stalls with arts and crafts, food, information etc. and also musical performances from different ethnic groups.
Tibet Support Group Grampian’s stall was decorated with both Tibetan flags and prayer flags, and also our TSG banner. We had a display board with information about the group and our activities, and different leaflets on the table. We also had a petition to the Chinese Ambassador for Tibetan prisoner Tenzin Delek Rinpoche who is serving a life sentence in Chuandong prison, Sichuan Province. Due to torture and lack of medical treatment, his health condition is critical. Our appeal to the Chinese authorities is for medical parole so that he can have urgent medical treatment. We collected 60 signatures.
In addition to the stall, the group were also running a street collection in the City Centre. The City was very busy with ‘Celebrate Aberdeen’ events, the One World Day event, the International Market and the Farmer’s Market. We were delighted to collect £265. This will go to support the Tibet Relief Fund’s ‘Help on Hand’ project in Chandigarh, Northern India which plays a vital role in supporting hundreds of Tibetans who go there every year for urgent medical treatment
