Sponsored Walk 2008

Forest of Birse ~ Sunday 29 June

Each year we organise a sponsored walk to support aid-projects for Tibetans. The proceeds go to Tibet Foundation, and the Free Tibet Campaign.

2008's venue was Forest of Birse, with a circular route taking us from Ballochan,  over the summit of Carnferg and into Glen Cat, a total distiance of about eight miles.

After several years of indifferent weather on the annual walk, we felt we were due a good day this time.. and it materialised. Aside from light rain during the ascent of Carnferg, it was dry and sunny.
This year's walk raised £867, which with a further donation will make £900 to go to Free Tibet Campaign, and the Tibet Foundation.  Many thanks to all who took part and contributed.

More pictures of the walk here.

Thanks to the Glen Dye Estates who opened a path for us to allow easier access, and to the Penny Farthing staff, who served us right on closing-time, as this one took a little longer to get round than we had anticipated, and thus  we missed our original tea appointment.

" I believe compassion to be one of the few things we can practice that will bring immediate and long-term happiness to our lives. I'm not talking about the short-term gratification of pleasures like sex, drugs or gambling (though I'm not knocking them), but something that will bring true and lasting happiness. The kind that sticks." H.H. The Dalai Lama
